,.
ENVIRONMENT, INC.' ~ - PAGE 2
GRAND COUNTY DEPARTMENT DF ROAD & BRIDGE '
SDUrI-I FORK PIT M-2006-029 ~ '.
_ JUNE 2, 2006 ~ ~ -
' ~ - .. ~ ~ '
Grand County will salvage any additiona'1 growth medium if
more is encountered'from the site for"use .when reclaiming
the site- We estimate that it will be minimum of 2250 cy
will be heeded to place a cover of 3..0 inches. over the
.disturbed area of 5.57 acres ±. If the soil' stockpiles.
remain undisturbed for more than one growing season a cover
. ~ crop of Crested Wheatgrass will be planted at a rate of 3.0
pls/200 Ftz. At ,this time a vegetative cover exist on the
piles.. '
4. .This was a mistake.- The deposit of. material on this site is
,such that, all the material is usable for making the road
maintenance materials coming'.from this site: Even the
gravely sandy loam can be used. I believe-the county noted
stockpile'areas.for'.overburden and waste rock based on the
' original-iTSFS map.u'sed'as the Reclamation Map in the submit-
. tal. The Forest, Service noted where these, materials were to
be located, wiihout realizing there would be none. Please
disregard this statement. There will be no stockpile of
overburden and waste 'rock on the site. '
5. The depth of.mining.will vary from'0 to 20 feet deep as
shown on the' Reclamation Plan Map' revised on 4/20/'06. There is
` litEle':mate`ral iei=t on Ehe previously"min`ed"area on the
- north end of the pit and as mining progresses to 'the south
we will. mine into the deposit leaving a 2:1 slope on the
west and south sides of the-mined area. This creates a mini
amphitheater like setting with the floor sloping to the
northeast.
6. After looking at the submittal I am assuming that you are
referring; to the Hydrologic balance and reclamation stabil-
ity statement so I have address those issues on the Mining Plan
Addendum;•page attached under the~Water Resources and Sloping
Plan headings. ~ ',
7. Please ,refer to the Mining Plan Addendum page- under the Mining
Method, ]?roces'sing;Method and Equipment heading.
8. As 'noted 'in response#4 there will be no overburden left on
the site'that:could be. used for growth medium.
9. The ..revised Reclamation Map prepared by Environment,, Inc. shows
. them to be'2:1 and we would prefer to keep that as .a minimum
rate. I realize the Division prefers.3:l since the success
ratio of~establishing vegetation'is greater. However, I
poiht out Rule 3.1'.5(7) that gives the operator the ability
to leave them 2:1 if not associated with a lake." See the
Mining Plan Addendumpage; attached under the Sloping Plan head-
ing. ..
