Dear Mr. Bates:
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recognizes the Burro No. 7
Mine site as having important public value as interpreteible
features for the uranium mining period of the carnotite mining
era of southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah, and wishes to
have preserved the following surface structures:
The Headframe and Hoist House for the Burro No. 7 24ine.
If possible, we would also like the Ford-model ore trucl: (from
the Burro #5?) pulled over and placed beneath the ore chute for
increased interpretive value.
All other structures, buildings, and the access road to the No. 7
may be removed as part of the final reclamation plan.
During our field visit on June 15, 1998, with Mr. Frank Barnett
of your staff, several items of safety concern were dis~:ussed.
As a result we would like UMETCO to perform the followi!.ig during
reclamation activity:
1.Remove the metal ladder up the ore bin from the :oottom of
the ore bin to a height of about 12'.
2.Remove the wooden ladder to the power platform (on east
side of hoist house) and place in back (north) of the
hoist house.
3.Fi11 the manhole entry at the base of the ore bin to the
ground surface.
