Dept of N~turd Resources
The landfill site is located northeast of the intersection of N 3rd
St E acd E 6th St N and consists of approximately 11~ scree.
The site consists of refuse piles along the entire west side and a
portion of the north side of the property. Partially buried material
and old chunks of concrete litter the surface of the refuse piles.
The eastern portion of the property appears to have been a borrow area
for the landfill, with ten feet of eiaterial, more or less, having been
removed. The slopes along this eastern portion and the elopes of the
refuse piles are 2:1 or steeper. A sketch of the site is attached.
The Cheyenne We11s sewage treatment plant is located directly north of
the site. Pipes cross the property to the sewage treatment plant. The
exact location and depth to the pipes is unknown.
The soils in the area are mapped as Manter sandy loam, 3 to 5 percent
elopes. A description of the mapping unit is attached.
Vegetation on the areas that were moat disturbed include annual weeds
such as cheatgrass, kochia, Russian thistle, prickly lettuce, devil's
claw, aunflover, foxtail and a few native species such as needle and
thread, western wheatgrass, Band dropaeed and yucca. A few honeylocuat
and Chinese elm trees are also found.
In the leaser disturbed areas, the vegetation consists of more native
speclea such as needle and thread, blue grams, buffalograss, Band
dropseed, three awn, bottlebrush cquirreltail, anakeweed, sand sage-
brush and yucca.
Reclamation of this site will involve cleaning up the trash from the
property and stabilising the elopes to :3:1 or less in order to establish
vegetation.
RECLAMATION RECOPAfENDATI0N5
Two proposals for the trash problem are outlined below.
Proposal 1 -
A 5,000 cubic yard pit could be dug between the refuse piles in
the northwestern corner of the site. The excavate would be stock-
piled and the eaialler refuse piles in that cornet could be pushed
into the pit. The southwestern pile was considered impractical to
move due to its sits. (It could possibly be used as a parking lot
for the area.) The stockpiled material would then be used to cover
the top of the pit and flatten the slopes of the larger refuse pile.
Any remaining excavate would be used to flatten the slopes in the
eastern part of the property.
