The minor changes, as proposed, will not cause any significant
alterations in Powderhorn Coal Company's reclamation plan.
ROADSIDE MINE See Exhibits 68, 20, 22
New Sediment Pond Number 9 was designed for the southwest corner of the
property. This pond will intercept run-off from about 20 acres of land.
The North diversion ditches and associated flumes were deleted. These
ditches were designed to intercept a relatively small amount of run-off at
a relatively high environmental, safety and dollar cost. Sediment Pond
Number 8 is designed to handle the additional run-off anticipated because
the North diversion ditches were deleted. It is coincidence that the
previous pond number 8 design is adequate for the new run-off calculations
for pond number 8. The pond was reshaped to reflect actual field conditions.
The spillway for pond number 8 has been revised from a one-half round, 48-
inch culvert to three arch pipe 35" x 24".
A 600 gpm, portable pump wilt be available on the property to dewater the
pond after a 10-year, 24-hour precipitation event.
The lower catch ditch no longer runs across the toe of the refuse pile.
This change was necessitated by two factors; first, the ditch would have
to be lined at substantial cost and secondly, stability of the Roadside
POWDERHORN COAL COMPANY P.O.
