Peabody
requests the Division to review the scope of work that
will be used to complete the baseline soil survey.
The Yoast area, comprising about 1,700 acres, is located
about 4.5 miles southwest of Seneca II Mine and 3 miles
east of the Seneca II-W permit area. The proposed study
area for Yoast is outlined on the enclosed 1" = 2000'
scale topographic base map.
The soil baseline study for the Yoast area will be
conducted according to the Objectives and Methodology
described in the Soil Baseline Study Report completed for
the East Wadge Extension area at Seneca II Mine. This
information is presented in PAP C-80-005, Volume 7, Tab 9,
Attachment 9-6, pages 9-6-4, 9-6-5, and 9-6-7 through
9-6-16.
All soil taxonomic units appearing in the soil survey
legend will be described and characterized. The number of
samples per taxonomic unit will adequately characterize
each map unit and shall be based on the complexity and
variability of soils within the study area. The following
sampling intensity guideline will be used:
Percent of Size of No. of
Study Area Area !acres) Samples
<10% <25
10-25% 25-100
25-50% 101-500
50-100% > 500
