kl..~.. Mr. Carl Mount
July 5, 1989
Page 2
No samples will be collected from known unsuitable
(according to approved suitability criteria) soil types.
Field notes from these areas will be sufficient to
document topsoil suitability. Thus, unnecessary data
would be eliminated and additional sampling effort could
be used to better define the variability of the suitable
soils.
Map verification transects will be used within
representative delineations of major map units that
contain significant salvageable topsoil. The transects
are beneficial for determining soil map unit composition,
range of characteristics, and topsoil depth variability.
Two minor sample analysis and suitability criteria changes
are recommended. The calcium carbonate analysis would only
be completed on samples that effervesce when subject to
10% HC1. Second, the suitability level for conductivity
of topsoil would be set at 0:0 to 8:0 mmhos/cm.
Peabody requests the Division's review, comments, and
approval of the soil baseline study scope of work for the
Yoast area prior to initiating field work on August 1,
1989.
Respectfully yours,
i~ :c~ lr~ ~~~ f
Gary W.
