The Solid Waste Section of the Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Division ([he
Division) has reviewed the results of the recent Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG)
inspection at the above referenced facility. A copy of the completed inspection form was
provided by Mr. Allen Sorenson of DMG.
Two items noted in the inspection are of concern to the Division. These are (1) the
removal of trash and empty barrels to an offsite disposal site and (2) the removal of oil
contaminated soils to an offsite disposal site. The DMG inspection form states that removal
and disposal of trash and empty barrels must be performed by October I5, 1995, and that
removal and disposal of contaminated soil must be performed by November 1, 1995.
The Division will require verification that the wastes referred to are properly removed and
disposed of. To document this removal, it will be necessary for the Gold Hill Mill to
provide the following information:
1. A letter report providing a narrative description of the removal and disposal
of the wastes. This must include types and quantities of waste, how
collection and removal was performed, and the site of final disposal. The
final disposal site must be a permitted landfill.
2. Laboratory analysis of a representative sample of the oil contaminated soils
for benzene, ethyl benzene, toluene, and xylene (BTEX) and Total
Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH).
