Below are DRMS comments
in bold and CC&V’s response in Italics. An adjustment to the estimated reclamation costs has also been
incorporated to reflect minor footprint adjustments.

1. Please discuss the intent and goals of the pilot testing system.

The purpose of this pilot study is to assess the feasibility of the technology in treating water with
complex geochemistry (without the use of acids or other hazardous chemicals) for the potential
removal of total recoverable iron and total recoverable aluminum.

The objectives of this trial are to:
• Evaluate the performance of active multimedia filtration to effectively remove total recoverable
iron and aluminum and ozone to remove potentially dissolved manganese under varying design
conditions at the Carlton Tunnel Portal.
• Determine the accumulation rate of filtered solids.
• Monitor additional constituents of interest, including:
o Potentially dissolved manganese
o Fluoride
o Sulfate
o pH
o Whole effluent toxicity (WET), where applicable

2. Please also provide a discussion on how the pilot system will work and include additional
flow diagrams to help explain the system.

The majority of the treatment equipment will be housed within a 20-foot shipping container. Water
will be pumped from Cell 0 or Cell 4 through two multi-media filter (MMF) vessels at a rate of 240
– 350 gpm designed to remove total suspended solids. The filtered effluent will be moved to a
Docusign Envelope ID: 2D18F739-39D8-4955-91B8-CEF73FA3A2BC
