0 COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
DATE: July 2311, 2022
TO: Interested Contractors
FROM: Julie Annear, Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety
RE: J and S Farms Bond Forfeiture Project- Permit M-1996-053, Discretionary
Purchase
Enclosed is a brief description and bid schedule for the J&S Farms Bond Forfeiture
Project. The permit for the pit was revoked and the financial warranty was forfeited. The
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety will reclaim the site using the forfeited bond
money in accordance with the approved reclamation plan.
PROJECT LOCATION
The J&S Farms is located in the town of Lamar. Access to the site is from 7350 Highway
50. See attached map.
The J&S Farms Pit (M-1996-053) is in western Prowers County about 1450 feet north of
the Arkansas River on the east side of Highway 50 in the town of Lamar. The disturbed
area is approximately 80 acres, including a pond of 28.6 acres that will remain. The site
is generally flat and contains sandy to clayey loam soils that can be unstable around the
margins of the pond where they are saturated. Due to the proximity to the Arkansas River
and pond on site, shallow groundwater is expected.
WORK SUMMARY
The J&S Farms site encompasses approximately 80 acres of rangeland that was
disturbed during a gravel mining operation. Approximately 28 acres of the site is a
groundwater exposed pond. The reclamation work will involve: 1) regrading a portion of
the shoreline of the pond to a 3H:1 V slope, 2) seeding the graded shoreline. The pond on
the site will remain.
MANDATORY PRE-BID MEETING-
A mandatory pre-bid meeting and site showing will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday,
August 9th, 2022. The meeting will start at Semco Inc. in Lamar Colorado. The
address is 7595 US-50, Lamar, CO 81052.
Rev.7/15/2022
