The tunnel was N
originally approved as TR-21 and the attached map shows the previously approved disposal areas '^o -i
and the new disposal area for TR-30. The new location is needed to provide a shorter, safer route (mow
O
and will reduce the overall air emissions from hauling. The new spoils pile will consist of
approximately 11,500 tons of muck and sediment (native rock)removed during Stage 2 construction
of the Mayflower Flood Bypass Tunnel (TR-29). The footprint of the new pile will be relatively
small with dimensions of approximately 150ft by 150ft and 1 Oft in height. The location for the new
pile will pose no issues to tailing impoundment enlargement or tailing dam stability, and has been
approved by the tailings Engineer of Record as reflected in the attached memo. The TR-21 disposal
areas along the west side and in the southwest corner of Mayflower TSF will remain as options
because there may be need to place material in those locations during future construction phases.
The TR materials (hard copy and electronic files) and the $1,006.00 fee applicable to a 112d
operation are attached to this letter. We appreciate your review of the TR and look forward to your
approval. Please contact Raymond Lazuk at 719-486-7584 or me at 719-486-7525 if you need
additional information.
Sincerely,
Diana Kelts
Chief Environmental Scientist
attachments
