N
San Luis Project-M-88-112
Technical Revision 35 Monitoring Wells M-4R and M-15 y
Dear Mr. West:
The purpose of this letter is to request a Technical Revision of the groundwater monitoring program for
the Battle Mountain Resources, Inc. (BMRI) "San Luis Project" (M-88-112). Groundwater wells M-4R
and M-15 are point of compliance wells in the groundwater monitoring program as specified in permit
revision TR-32. Wells M-4R and M-15 were constructed to evaluate and monitor groundwater
constituents related to the storage and production at the process facilities. In 1997, reclamation of the
milling related buildings and storage areas was initiated and the sites surrounding it remediated according w
to previous technical revisions. In November 2014, CDRMS released a 35.14-acre parcel from the permit I
area which included the remaining process facility buildings that remained in place which is currently 3
deeded to the San Luis Valley Animal Welfare Society as shown in Figure 1. Given the permit release
and that the former milling facilities no longer exist, BMRI requests this technical revision to remove
these wells from the groundwater monitoring program.
Monitoring Well M-4R
Groundwater monitoring well M-4R is located within the 35.14-acre parcel of land deeded by BMRI to
the Costilla Soil Conservation District in October 1997. In June 2003,Colorado Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety (CDRMS) approved TR-32 identifying M-4R as a permanent structure and
establishing M-4R be maintained as a point of compliance. In November 2014, CDRMS released this
35.14-acre parcel from the permit area. Since the U.S. Natural Resource Conservation Service no longer
owns the property and well M-4R was in an area released from the permit area, BMRI is no longer
sampling this well and considers it no longer a point of compliance well.
Monitoring Well M-15
Groundwater monitoring well M-15 is located in the current permit area and was constructed in 1996. It
is located between the former milling operations buildings and the lined tailing facility as shown in Figure
1. Well M-15 was originally put in place for monitoring of potential constituents as a result of the
operations at the milling facility which exhibited groundwater flows toward the lined tailing facility.
