TBAPP88 MINING INCE
RE D
July 10, 2014
JUL 17 2014
Mr. Jared Ebert
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety Division of Reclamation,
1313 Sherman St., Room 215 Mining & Safety
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Jared:
(Subject: Trapper Mine (Permit No. C- 81 -010) TR -113 2013 Annual Redd matiou and
Hydrology Report, Adequacy Respoun 1
In response to comments initiated on the April 24th adequacy review.
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety requested additional
information concerning three items within the Annual Hydrology Report. Each item and
respective response is below.
1.) Enclosed is a letter from the Colorado Division of Water Resources (DWR) dated April 21,
2014. Several items were noted in the letter in regards to the compliance with the requirement of
the State Engineers Office. The first item is in regards to the stock water ponds present at the site.
The second item is in regards to the proper permitting required for the dewatering operations.
The third item is in regards to the types of well permits that need to be obtained for the
monitoring wells and exploration boreholes at the site.
Trapper will work with DWR concerning permitting of monitoring wells as applicable to
the site. Trapper currently holds the proper and adequate water rights for our current
operation. Trapper will further evaluate long term water rights when that becomes
necessary in the future.
2.) The iron (Fe) levels reported for alluvial monitoring well P -1 have varied throughout the
years, however in September of 2011 and September of 2013 the levels were reported to be 1.33
and. 72 mg /1 respectively. These levels are higher than the Colorado Department of Health and
Environment Water Quality Control Commission, Regulation No. 41, The Basic Standards for
Ground Water, Table II standard for Iron which is .3 mg /l. Previous monitoring data for this well
show iron levels to be below this standard except for one event in September of 1999 when a level
of 1.24 mg /l was reported. This impact is not addressed in the 2013 Annual Hydrology Report
narrative; please explain the spike in iron levels of this well in 2011 and 2013.
In consultation with George Hoffman he states, "The total iron in well P -1 has varied
from very low levels to greater than 600 mg/1 for this very naturally common occurring
constituent. This shows that the natural variability of this constituent in the Pyeatt
alluvium is very large and indicates that 1.24 mg/1 might not define the upper natural
P.O.
