TR -113 Adequacy Review Response Cont.
range for dissolved iron at the Trapper Mine. The 1.33 mg/1 may also be within the
natural range for this constituent."
There is no other indication of any outside factors that may have affected the iron level at
this well. Well P -1 is in a shallow aquifer and may be easily manipulated by dry periods
and lower water levels.
3.) Well P -3 has been reported to be dry since the last measurements were taken in June of
2005. Prior to this, the water elevation's almost mirrored the elevations measured at well P -1
until the well was reported to be dry. This is logical given the construction of this well and its
proximity to P -1. It is unclear why this well went dry so suddenly. There may be a problem with
this well, perhaps a blockage of some kind. Please evaluate the condition or provide an
explanation for why the well went dry.
Upon further inspection by myself and Jared Ebert of the division it appears there is a
problem at this well. The casing has either cracked, sheared or collapsed at
approximately 17 feet of a total of 34.9 feet.
George Hoffinan states, "The Lewis Shale well P -3 has produced very similar results to
the P -1 alluvial Pyeatt well. The Lewis Shale is not a reasonable aquifer due to its low
permeability and poor water quality. Monitoring of the Lewis Shale at the Trapper Mine
should not be necessary and not very likely to produce beneficial data."
Trapper will evaluate the abandonment and or repair of this well at this time. If the
division is supportive of abandonment of this monitoring point, it will be included as
such in a future permitting action. Trapper concurs with Mr. Hoffinan that the well is
probably not of any benefit in the future.
Please contact me if you have any additional questions or comments.
Sincerely,
,,,a /- 4
Graham Roberts
Environmental Engineer
GCR
WANNUALRPTORMSURPTIAnnual Hydrology Report Responsel Letter.DOC
Enclosure
File 109.2.3.4, w/o enc
Shelf Binder w /enc
