August 12,2013 C-1982-057/Seneca II-W Mine JLE
The 005-El drainage basin and 005 Gulch drainage basin was observed. These areas had very dense vegetation
cover established. A small slump area that appears to have been repaired northeast of stock tank T-20 was
observed. This area had less vegetation established, but overall it appeared stable. Minor rills were observed
above the Ridgeline Access Road southwest of the shrub enclosure in this area. Straw waddles are in place and
this area appears to be stabilizing with vegetation. A healthy stand of Box elder trees was observed near stock
tank T-18. Also, the Operator has planted trees and shrubs along 005-Gulch. The primary tree/shrub species
observed along the drainage were Box elder,Mountain snowberry and Serviceberry.
The vegetation in the area between the 005-Gulch and 006-Gulch basin was dense with perennial grasses, forb and
shrubs.
The 006-NE1,006-NE2,006-NE3,006-NE4,006-Gulch,006-E2,006-El and the 006-SEl drainage basins were
observed. The vegetation established in these basins was very diverse in type and species. Woods rose(Rosa
woodsii)have established well in the upper reaches of the 006-NE3 and 006-NE4 drainages. Alfalfa was also
dense in places throughout these areas. A steep south facing slope above 006-NE1 had very good vegetative cover
given the steepness of the slope, however a patch of some type of annual mustard, cheatgrass and Canada thistle
was observed. Desirable vegetation has established throughout this patch;however SCC should monitor this area
to insure the perennial vegetation continues to develop and does not get choked out by these species. Two erosion
gullies were observed above 006-SE1,the location of these gullies were collected using a Trimble YUMA GPS
unit. A map depicting the location of these gullies is enclosed with this report. These gullies were not very long
and will need to be repaired. Also,a patch a Canada thistle was observed north of the undisturbed patch south of
the 006-NE2 drainage.
The PM5 and PM4 drainage basins were observed, several shrub enclosures are located in these basins. Overall
the vegetation in these areas were well established with dense shrubs and trees established within the enclosures.
Overall the drainage channels appeared functional. The PM 4-D drainage has a large rill in the center of the
drainage. According to Mr.Karo, this channel will be repaired this year.
The PM-3 area was observed and the bond release area was walked. Grazing was occurring throughout this basin
on August 13 but it appears the cattle were moved south into the next drainage basin the following day. Overall
the bond release area had dense vegetation cover. A rill was observed near the PM-3-2 surge tank that will need to
be monitored.
The PM-2A,2B,2C,2D and 2E drainage basin was observed. The bond release area in the PM-2D and 2E
drainage basin have dense vegetation established and appeared stable. The drainages were stable and functional.
Cattle were grazing the PM-2 basin during the inspection.
A heavy rain occurred while inspecting the PM 1 drainage and while sampling the topsoil at point 18. This area
has dense vegetation established and the drainage system appears to be functioning.
According to Mr.Karo,SCC repaired a few rills in the 006-SE1 basin on the slope with the northern aspect above
this drainage. A small swath of land appears to have been graded and several water bars have been constructed for
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 5 of 13
