USDA
NATURAL RESOURCES
CONSERVATION SERVICE
Subject: Mine Land Reclamation Plan
John Woodman
To: Davis Engineering Service Inc
Dan Russell
•
P.O BOX 580
CENTER, GO 81125
(719) 754.3400
September 20, 2040
A field visit, at the proposed site, was done on September 20, 2000 by one of our field office
personnel. The site is a mountain outwash range site with following vegetation: blue grama,
prickly pear cactus, kochia, and brush. Native vegetation is limited on this site. Soil type is a
platoro loam. The substratum is very gravelly loam to very gravelly loamy sand The hazard of
erosion by wind is moderate. (enclosed is a soils map and a brief soil description)
Enclosed is a critical area planting specification, which I have highlighted some parts that you
need to consider. Slopes 3:1 will be ok and reclaiming it back to its natural vegetation is
recommended. Enclosed is a grass - seeding plan that has my recommendation on grasses to seed
back and the seed amount per acre.
Grass seeding can be planted by broadcasting and running an english harrow or dozer tracks over
the flat - planted area and dozer tracks will due on the slopes. If for some reason you can drill,
make sure seed is planted 1/4 to 3/4 inch deep, no deeper than % ".
Topsoiling will be done if the topsoil is nothing but gopher dirt.
Fertilizer I feel is not needed.
Seedbed Prep needs to be a well settled and firm, but friable enough that seed can be placed at
the seeding depth specified_ Competitive stands of weeds that are present before seeding -must be
controlled by shallow tillage or by application of herbicides labeled for this purpose.
Recommend seeding grasses from June 15 th to July 151h to catch some of the rains since water
will be limited.
Mulching specification included in packet in case soils are excessive to wind erosion. Only use
this practice if you feel soils have potential erosion_
The U.S_ Departmem of Agriculture (USDA) prohibits discrimination in all programs and activities on the basis of sate, color, national origin,
gender, religion, age, disability, political beliefs, seaval orientation, and marital or family status.
