The actions considered in the selected alternative were considered by the interdisciplinary
team within the context of past, present, and reasonably foreseeable future actions.
Significant cumulative effects are not predicted to result from exploration drilling alone.
A complete analysis of the direct, indirect, and cumulative effects of the selected
alternative and all other alternatives is described in Chapter 4 of the EA. If exploration
drilling were to show the existence of a potentially viable prospect, and leasing/mining
were to be proposed, then additional environmental analysis would be performed to
address any potentially significant impacts that would result from development.
7. Whether the action is related to other actions with individually insignificant but
cumulatively significant impacts.
The interdisciplinary team evaluated the possible actions in context of past, present and
reasonably foreseeable actions. Significant cumulative effects are not predicted. A
complete disclosure of the effects of the project is contained in Chapter 4 of the EA.
Additional exploration beyond what is evaluated in this EA could be proposed at a later
date, but would require additional NEPA analysis. If a valuable deposit of Potash is
discovered, and leasing/mining is proposed additional NEPA would also be required.
8. The degree to which the action may adversely affect districts, sites, highways,
structures, or other objects listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of
Historic Places or may cause loss or destruction of significant scientific, cultural, or
historical resources.
The project will not adversely affect districts, sites, highways, structures, or other objects
listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places, nor will it cause
loss or destruction of significant scientific, cultural, or historical resources. A cultural
inventory has been completed for the proposed action, and no cultural resources were
found which were recommended as eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
9. The degree to which the action may adversely affect an endangered or threatened
species or its habitat that has been determined to be critical under the Endangered
Species Act of 1973.
The only species listed under the endangered species act that may occur in the project
area is the Mexican spotted owl (EA at Section 3.3.10).
Implementation of the Proposed Action would have a no effect on the Mexican spotted
owl based upon implementation of the timing restrictions described in Table F1,
Appendix F of EA for Drill sites 4 and 5. No Project activities would occur within 0.5
mile of the Dolores River Canyon rim during March 15 — August 31. (EA at Section
4.2.1.10).
Gunnison sage- grouse is not listed under the endangered species act but has heed
proposed for listing as endangered along with designation of critical habitat. The
Gunnison sage - grouse (proposed endangered) is known to occur or expected to occur in
the project area. The proposed action may affect is not likely to adversely affect
Gunnison sage- grouse and proposed critical habitat (EA at 64). Effects to Gunnison
sage - grouse are not likely to be significant based upon implementing the Design
Features, EPMs, and BMPs described in Section 2.2.8 and adhering to the timing
