• x IPs = average reference area all hit herbaceous cover - improved pasture- subirrigated
Average vegetation cover will be used for reclaimed areas because successional development will have
established a predominantly herbaceous community even with shrubs present.
Revegetation success for cover in the reclaimed portions of the haul road corridor will be
demonstrated by comparing the all hit herbaceous cover in the haul road corridor reference area to
the all hit total vegetation cover of the reclaimed lands within the haul road corridor. The vegetation
cover in the reclaimed area haul road corridor will be considered successful if it is not less than 90
percent of the cover standard with 90 percent statistical confidence.
The formula to be used for the haul road cover evaluation is:
where:
xrevc '90 (XIIRCJ
xrevc = average all hit total vegetation cover for revegetated areas
XIIRCc = average all hit total herbaceous cover for the haul road
corridor reference area
Cover will not be evaluated for any cropland areas of the reclaimed haul road. This is based on Rule
4.15.9, which states that success of reclamation for cropland will be based on production only.
Cover will be measured as described in Sampling Parameters and Sampling Methodologies in the
Revegetation Monitoring section presented earlier in this tab. Sample adequacy will be met for both
reclaimed and reference area sampling where applicable. All sample points will be randomly located.
Production.
Reclamation success for production in the mine area will be evaluated by comparing herbaceous
production in the reclaimed areas to the weighted herbaceous production value determined from the
extended reference area. Herbaceous production will be estimated by clipping the current year's
above ground herbaceous biomass randomly located 1/2m2 to 1m2 sample plots. Fencing or
exclosures will be used to exclude livestock prior to sampling, where necessary. Production will not
be evaluated in the shrub and tree establishment sites. These sites are intended primarily as woody
plant establishment sites. These areas will be treated to reduce herbaceous competition for increased
woody plant survival.
RN -03 37 Revised 10/10
