there that much difference between "fracturing" and "fracking" except the
spelling?
8. Aren't there regulations regarding "noise pollution? The constant
equipment noise, especially the track rock drill being used at the Loukenen
Bros. /Weaver Mine can be heard in the Bobcat Ridge Natural Area and in
the surrounding areas? What is the impact on wildlife and migrating birds?
What about the residents being subjected to this noise all day, five -six days
a week?
9. Regarding safe removal of stone on flatbed trailers onto public roads: it is
not uncommon to have rocks up to 10"x10" (approximately) in the middle
of the road in the direct path of traffic. Sometimes the vehicles are unable
to avoid hitting these rocks in time to stop due to oncoming traffic or the
numerous bicycle riders who use County Road 27. The residents of the
community requested to have a meeting with the owners of Carter Lake
Enterprises, Phil and Matt Sprague. Engineers of Landmark Engineering of
Loveland, Colorado were there to represent the quarry owners. Concerns
were voiced regarding (1) the dust; (2) reclaiming /re- vegetation; (3) noise
pollution and the effects on natural springs since many residents have
wells; (4) the amount of rock and earth being pushed into the irrigation
ditches. Residents depending on irrigation water now have no way of
accessing the water. These are but a few of the concerns voiced.
Landmark Engineering representatives rebuffed the majority of questions,
leaving the community with little hope. The meeting was approximate five
years ago.
County Road 27 from Highway 34 through Masonville and over Horsetooth
Reservoir it used by many: bike riders and popular bike races, motorcycle
and motorcycle rallies. Those who enjoy the Bobcat Ridge Natural Area
provided by the City of Fort Collins and also those who use this road to get
to Horsetooth Reservoir for camping, boating and hiking.
