Several operations, namely: 1) Flagstone Quarry, <br />2) Ark.ns nark Store, 3) Masonville Stme ion—g, 4) CLE Stone, aka, Carter Lake <br />Enterprises and 5) Loukenen Bros. /WeAver iviine are mining flagstone along <br />County Road 27. The mining operation problems areas follows: <br />1. Who or what agency oversees these operations to assure compliance with <br />local, state and federal regulations? <br />2. Was an archaeological survey conducted? It has been acknowledged that <br />the Masonville area is rich in Native American history. It has been rumored <br />mining operations have encountered artifacts, including spearheads, <br />arrowheads, stone and bone tools, Indian rings and most troubling burial <br />grounds which unearthed an Indian skeleton 4 feet in length which was <br />taken to Colorado State University to be carbon - dated, being thousands of <br />years old. It is also rumored that no regard has been given to these sites <br />and mining operations destroying many of these artifacts. What <br />responsibility do the operators of these mines have regarding <br />archaeological findings? <br />3. Was an environmental survey conducted? Were steps taken to assure <br />these areas were not home of any endangered plants or animals? Was any <br />consideration made of the impact to wildlife, such as deer, elk, bobcats, <br />mountain lions, bear, fox, bats, owls, hummingbirds and numerous species <br />of migrating birds? <br />4. Is a 'Storm Water Management Plan' in place? Can an erosion control <br />Supervisor be identified to present all required permits, bi- weekly and post - <br />storm inspection reports?
