Response to DRMS Adequacy Review (1) — Cotter JD -9 Mine Reclamation Plan Amendment
Exhibit D
4. Addressing Rule 6 4.4(e)(ii), on page D -6 under item a., the exhibit states that waste rock
will be stacked to a height that will not impede grading to 2H:1 V during reclamation.
Please provide the Division with the maximum anticipated thickness that waste rock will
be placed and justification for slopes steeper than 3H:1 V.
The maximum anticipated thickness for the waste rock pile is 70 feet. A 2HAV
slope is necessary to ensure that the waste rock does not get into the drainage
located west of the waste rock pile. A revised Figure F2 showing a 2H: 1V slope
is provided as Attachment 4.
S. Addressing Rule 6 4.4(e)(ii), on page D -7 under item b., the exhibit states that ore will be
piled up to a workable stockpile. Please provide the Division with a maximum height
anticipated.
The maximum anticipated thickness of the ore stockpile will be 12 feet.
6 On page D -7 under item b., it is stated that the ore pad will consist of a clay liner. Please
specify the source of the clay proposed for the liner.
The material for the clay liner will be obtained from a permitted source. The
exact location of the material will be determined prior to construction.
Cotter will inform DRMS of the exact source for the clay material before
construction of the liner begins.
7. On page D -7 under item b., it is stated 'During reclamation of the pad, the compacted
clay will also be removed and placed inside the mine. " Please specify the location inside
the mine the clay will be placed. Also, will any mine water come in contact at the
proposed final placement of the clay?
Clay from the liner will be placed in the mine approximately 100 feet down the
decline from the portal. Mine waste material will then be placed from the clay
up to the portal. No water from the mine workings should come into contact
with the clay liner material.
2
