Ste- 2.05.4
summer of 1981. The results of this study are summarized in Exhibit 2.04-E6, Vegetation
• Information, and graphically illustrated on Map 2.04-M$, Regional Vegetation. A revegetation plan,
based on the study results, is included in the vegetation srudy.report in Exhibit 2.05-E6. Because
other mine disturbance areas including the Sanborn Geek Mme area involve similar soil and
vegetation types and topographic configuration and aspect, the revegetation plan has been detemilned
to be generally applicable to all mine disturbance areas. Disturbed and reclaimed areas will be
prepared and reseeded consistent with the approved revegetation plan. Given that httle or no
infom~ation is available on the vegetation community (s) existing in the lower portion of Ells Geek
prior to mining related disturbance in this area, OMI will seed the reestablished Ells Creek channel
and immediately adjacent area with the riparian seed mixture. All other areas will be seeded with the
Mountain Shrubland/Juniper Woodland mixture.
Reclamation Schedule -The following sununarizxs the tirrtutg of the future final reclamation activities
for the Sanborn Geek Mme area, beginning with the decision to abandon the site.
Year 1 -The mine portals and shah collar will be sealed and backfilled. Associated
structures, facilities, and equipment, including Foundations, will be dismantled, demolished,
and either removed from the site or buried on site.
Year 2 -Disturbance areas will be regraded to the design final configuration, soil will be
replaced if required, and the reclaimed areas will be seeded and mulched.
Reclamation Costs - A summary of the costs for reclaiming the Sanborn Creek Mute facilities area u
provided in Exhibit 2.03-E3, Insurance and Bonding Information.
Elk Geek Mine Facilities -The Elk Geek Mme Facilities will include the Elk Creek Mtne portal
• bench (upper and lower bench areas), portals, two ventilation shafts, associated ventilation
rrtstallations, electrical substation, the Elk Creek Mine overland conveyor and associated road, the
water storage tank, Sedimentation Pond D, the North Elk Geek soil stockpile, and minor ancillary
facilities. Reclamation plans for the Elk Geek Mtne facilities are based on cessation oI mining from
the Elk Geek Mine and subsequent closure of the mine, removal of related surface stmcnrres and
facilities, and reclamation of the associated surface disturbance at some indefinite future date.
Demolition and Final Grading -The Elk Creek Mate portak will be sealed in accordance with
applicable provisions of Rule 4.07 (as shown by the Figure, Typical Goss-Section -Mme Seale, in
Exhibit 2.05-E5, Reclamation Details). Solid block Beak will be constructed a m~nirrn,m of 25 feet in
from the point where the top of the Ells Creek Mme declines daylight to portal bench ground level.
Above ground portions of the decline structures and the portak will be demolished and the resulting
demolition debris will be removed from the site or buried in place. Once surface structures are
removed, the mine portak will be backfilled from the Beak to the surface with soil and broken rock
materiak and the portal area graded to completely cover all portal structures and blend with the portal
bench surface. Pertrtanent shaft seak will be constructed/installed on the two Elk Creek ventilation
shahs in accordance with applicable provisions of Rule 4.07. The same options exist for shaft sealing
as previously described for the Sanborn Creek Mme area. The preferred shaft sealing method for this
area will be determined through discussions with the DMG prior to final reclanation and
implemented to assure effective shaft closure. All equipment, buildings and above ground strucrures
will be dismantled and removed from the site. All concrete foundations will be demolished to at least
two feet below surface and the resulting concrete rubble will be used as backfill or buried in place.
The segments of the Elk Geek culvert installed under and adjacent to the Elk Geek portal bench
areas will be removed except for a short segment under the Elk Creek road and the associated
. segments of the Elk Creek stream channel reestablished. Culvert removal will involve excavation,
removal, and haulage off-site for disposal of culvert sections. Following culvert removal, the
corresponding segments of the Elk Creek channel will be reestablished as permanent diversions.
Channel reconstruction will involve grading to establish the design postlrllning channel configuration
PR04 2.05-62 Revised August 2000
