K -3 EVAPORATION
Average evaporation rates from pan records beginning in 1941 through
1960 at Wagon Wheel Gap are as follows:
Evaporation In Inches*
Month May June July August September October Total
Average through 1960 7.47 8.79 7.40 6.08 5.71 3.32 38.77
No. of years recorded 7 21 21 21 21 8
*The average annual coefficient for conversion from pan to lake
evaporation is given as about 70% for the Creede area. The
average May- October evaporation is computed to be about 73%
of the annual total.
An old record made In 1920 through 1926 at a project just west_
of Wagon Wheel Gap, gave the following averages for seven years:
Evaporation In Inches
Month June July August September
North Slope (9601 4.21 3.41 2.44 1.81
South Slope (9609 5.82 5.55 4.86 4.50
Average annual pan evaporation within the permit area is estimated
to be from 25 to 35 inches per year although no definite conclusions can be
abstracted from the limited data available.
K -4 TEMPERATURE
From interpolated information based on records from Creede and Wagon
Wheel Gap, the mean daily maximum temperature at the Bulldog Mountain Operation
ranges from +45 to +49 ° F in January to approximately +830 to +88 °F in July.
It is estimated that the mean daily minimum temperature ranges from -34° to
-40 in January to +27 to +32 ° F in July. Extremes in temperature may range
from as low as -40° in winter to as high as 85 °F in summer. Temperature and
wind data from the Creede Station is presented in Table K -l.
