Peabody Sage Creek Mine (PSCM) received permit approval from the Colorado Division of <br />Reclamation Mining and Safety (CDRMS) on August 20, 2010 and began surface disturbance <br />for the construction of an underground mine in the summer of 2011. The permit area contains <br />10,164 acres, of which 1,845.8 acres were previously disturbed by Seneca Coal Company. <br />Within the 1,845.8 previously disturbed /reclaimed acres, PSCM has established a "new" <br />disturbance area of approximately 356.4 acres. Those <br />areas that did not have topsoil stockpiled had it immediately replaced when the disturbance was <br />completed. This acreage is reflected on the CDRMS Annual Report Form and is included in the <br />text of the following report. Refer to the 2012 Annual Report maps for the extent of the mine <br />disturbance boundary. <br />BACKFILLING AND GRADING <br />No backfilling occurred in 2012 at Peabody Sage Creek mine. <br />TOPSOIL MONITORING <br />PSCM is required by Permit C -09 -087 to monitor the salvage, storage, and redistribution of soil <br />handling operations at Seneca II Mine. <br />• Soil Recovery Documentation <br />There were 11,198.8 cubic yards of topsoil salvaged during 2012. <br />• Soil Pit - Topsoil Fertility /Spoil Quality <br />No new topsoil replacement occurred in 2012; therefore no quality samples were collected or <br />analyzed. <br />2012 ARR 1 <br />
