RESULTS
Sample data from 2012 are presented in Tables A -1 through A -12. Sampling data for 2012 are
summarized in Appendix C. Data on cover, production, and woody plant density are in Table C -1. Data
on species density by lifeform are tabulated for sampled areas in Table C -2. Data on relative cover by
lifeform are compiled in Table C -3. Statistical adequacy of sampling is reviewed in Table C -4. The list of
plant species observed during (reclaimed and reference areas) is included as Table D -1. Seed mixes
used in the reclamation areas are included for reference in Appendix E. Photographs of representative
locations within the reclaimed areas sampled in 2012, as well as photographs of the Reference areas, are
included in Appendix F. Graphs of vegetation and climate data are presented in Figures C -la through C-
11 of this report.
In the plant cover descriptions below, species listed as "also present" were not "hit" during point- intercept
sampling but were present within one meter of either side of the 50 m sample transect line. Unless
otherwise stated, all cover values reported below are for all -hit data. Percentages are rounded to one
decimal place to facilitate discussion of the results.
2012 Phase 111 BRB - 1
(Photographs 1 through 19)
COVER
(Table A -1)
The dominant lifeform in the BRB -1 in 2012 was native perennial cool season grasses with 21.5 percent
all -hit vegetation cover, followed closely by introduced perennial forbs with 15.1 percent all -hit vegetation
cover. Introduced perennial cool season grasses and native perennial forbs followed with 7.0 and 2.7
percent all -hit vegetation cover. Native perennial cool season grass cover was predominantly composed
of basin wildrye (Leymus cinereus) and western wheatgrass (Pascopyrum smithil). Introduced perennial
forb cover was composed mostly of alfalfa (Medicago sativa).
Also observed in the area were small amounts of the noxious weeds hound's tongue (Cynoglossum
officinale , 0.4% cover) and Canada thistle (Breea arvense,0.2% cover). Other noxious species that were
present but not in measured amounts were musk thistle (Carduus nutans ssp. macrolepis), bull thistle
(Cirsium vulgare), whitetop (Cardaria draba), and Dalmatian toadflax (Linaria genistifolia ssp. dalmatica).
12
