Hatcher
Hokestra SWSP
April 10, 2013
Depletions
A summary of each cell is provided in the table below:
The County has completed mining in all cells with the exception of the 9.9 -acre and
20.9 -acre cells (Cells 3 and 4 respectively) located in the center of the gravel pit site (Figure 1).
Mining in these cells or anywhere else within the Hokestra Pit is not anticipated to occur during
this plan period. Cell 3 has been backfilled from previous mining and Cell 4 mining has not
commenced thus there are no exposed surface areas within those cells.
According to the information provided by the applicant, the County will continue to
dewater the 35.0 -acre cell (Cell 2) during this plan period. The County intends to line this cell,
and the cell will continue to be dewatered until lining is complete. The surface area of the
dewatering trench and collection pond for this cell total 0.37 acres. As long as the pit is
continuously dewatered, the water returned to the stream system should be adequate to offset
the depletions. For administration and to determine post - pumping depletions after dewatering
has ceased, or is reduced, a totalizing flow meter must be installed to accurately measure the
monthly dewatering volumes.
Currently 70.5 acres of exposed ground water surface area is exposed at the Hokestra
Pit site. According to the submitted information, a total of 15.0 acres of ground water surface
was exposed to the atmosphere within the reclamation permit boundary prior to January 1, 1981
("pre-81"), as evidenced from an aerial photo taken in September 1981 (See Figure A -3).
