Savage and Savage
Memorandum
To:
From:
Date:
Subject:
File #:
Donald W. MacDonald, Coors Energy Company
Michael Savage, Savage and Savage, Inc.
March 26, 2012
First Quarter 2012 Pest and Disease Inspection; Keenesburg Mine
C -81 -028
On March 23, 2012, I conducted inspections of the operational, reclaimed, revegetated,
and several undisturbed native areas at the Keenesburg Mine for evidence of plant pests,
noxious weeds (defined or identified on List A or B by the Colorado Department of
Agriculture), and plant diseases that could affect the re- established vegetation at the
Keenesburg Mine.
With the approval of the Phase III final bond release (SL -06) by the Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety, a number of the reclaimed areas at the Keenesburg
Mine are no longer required to be inspected for pests and disease. While not required by
the CDMRS permit, these areas will be inspected in conjunction with other regulated
areas of the Keenesburg Mine to ensure continued revegetation success. Any concerns
regarding these areas will be conveyed to the landowner, Coors Energy Company.
Areas 25, 29, 30, and 31, the permanent sediment pond, dugout, Topsand Piles A -1, B -1,
and A -3, the small cottonwood grove, the long -term spoil area, the bottom and perimeter
of B Pit, the boundaries of the fenced oil and gas pads and roads, the office and shop
yard, and several areas outside the former mine disturbance area were inspected by
pedestrian and vehicle means for any potential problems.
I did not identify any disease conditions at any of the operational, reclaimed, or
revegetated areas of the mine site. I did not identify any plant pests which had affected
the growth of the vegetation during this growing season. No areas which experienced any
infestation or blight were found during the inspection. No patches of noxious weed
species were observed, nor were any areas observed where weeds, plant pests, or disease
showed a deleterious effect to the live vegetation.
C: Keenesburg Pest and Disease Inspection File
Danny Kipp, Keenesburg Mine
AHR -2012 -36-
