TO
February 14, 2013
Gold Hill Mines, Inc.
P.O. Box 1523
Longmont, Colorado 80502
(303) 651 -2985
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Mr. Michael A. Cunningham
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 8020
Dear Mr. Cunningham,
We are requesting the elimination of the following water sample locations:
1 20
Gold Hill Mill, Permit No. 1994 -117
Re: Technical Revision - Water Monitoring Locations and Sample Parameters
Numerous water monitoring parameters have been analyzed in the past several decades
that have been below minimum detectable limit (MDL), or are of questionable value in
evaluating the water quality associated with the Gold Hill Mill and the integrity of the mill's
tailings pond liner. Because of this history, Gold Hill Mines, Inc. is requesting a revision
of the water monitoring requirements for this permit.
For the purpose of water quality analysis and in order to detect any increases in these
elements in the water samples, I am requesting that the following elements be sampled:
the dissolved metals of Arsenic, Cadmium, Chromium, Copper, Iron, Lead, Manganese,
Selenium, and Zinc, plus pH, TDS, temperature, and conductivity at all surface and
groundwater sampling locations.
(LH) Left Hand Creek — Water from Left Hand Creek is the only legal source of
appropriated water for use in the Gold Hill Mill. There is no reason to continue
sampling this site, since there are literally dozens of water samples that have
been taken for years from Left Hand Creek by the EPA, the State of Colorado's
Water Quality Control Division and the Boulder County Health Department. These
agencies have a very complete record of the water quality in this creek. This
location is not in the Gold Hill Mill's drainage. Nothing has ever occurred at the
Gold Hill Mill that has affected the water quality in Left Hand Creek, and there is
no reason to continue sampling this site.
(WY) Wynona Mine — The water in this mine has been sampled in the past,
because it is the permitted site for storing water pumped up from Left Hand Creek
that will be used to process ore in the Gold Hill Mill. Until the water line is restored
