• Information. It should be noted that planned mining operations will not <br />occur directly beneath either the Corley Mine or Corley Company Wells and <br />these wells are outside of the calculated angle of draw. As described in <br />the subsidence control plan, EFCI will limit extraction and utilize <br />barrier pillars as appropriate in critical areas to minimize potential <br />subsidence. <br />Protection of Surface and Groundwater Quantity. EFCI's planned mining and <br />related activities have the potential of temporarily increasing surface <br />water runoff and altering flow patterns in the receiving drainages. The <br />primary mining related activities which may specifically impact surface <br />water quantities include the following: <br />o Surface Disturbance <br />o Operation of Drainage and Sediment Control Structures <br />o Reclamation <br />• Disturbance associated with construction and installation of mine <br />structures and facilities and initial mine development involved removal <br />of topsoil and vegetation. This disturbance reduced infiltration and <br />evapotransporation loss and has the overall effect of increasing surface <br />runoff from disturbed areas. While all runoff from disturbance areas is <br />intercepted and routed to sedimentation structures, operation of these <br />structures has the additional potential to alter flow patterns in <br />receiving drainages due to retention of runoff for sediment control and <br />any necessary treatment. <br />Upon completion of mining operations, disturbed areas will be reclaimed. <br />Reclamation will involve backfilling and grading, reestablishment of <br />natural drainage patterns,topsoil replacement and revegetation. It is <br />anticipated that effective reclamation will restore infiltration and <br />runoff patterns approximating pre-mining conditions. <br />EFCI effectively controls and mitigates potential increased runoff from <br />• disturbance areas using a number of commonly accepted surface management <br />and drainage control practices. Specifically, disturbed areas are graded <br />to minimize runoff, and to the extent operationally feasible, surface flow <br />2.05.6-29 <br />
