Mr. Tyler O'Donnell
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Adequacy Review — Pickard Pit
M- 2012 -048
Dear Mr. O'Donnell:
6.3.3 EXHIBIT C — Mining Plan
40586 Co. Rd. 21
Haxtun, CO 80731
February 10, 2013
Exhibit C — Mining Plan has been modified to include a statement that no
overburden is anticipated at the Pickard Pit.
3. Please specify the estimated thickness of the material that will be mined.
)(ateg 6uiui j
'uogeuweioaa to uoislnla
?, 833
CI3A13332I
RECEIVED
r s 122013
Division of Reclamation,
Mining & Safety
I am providing a response to your letter of January 18, 2013 and the adequacy concerns
regarding the Pickard Pit. I am showing the questions raised as you presented them. The
responses are in bold.
1. In this exhibit it was unclear as the frequency of operation of the proposed pit.
The submittal states the pit will be used only when needed. If mining activities
will be conducted each year, but mining will be conducted for less than 180 days
in each year, then the permit application must contain a statement that the
operation is in intermittent status.
In general, Kit Carson Road and Bridge gravel pits are opened throughout the
county to reduce haul requirements. They are only used when road work is
occurring in that particular area of the county. Mining will be conducted for less
than 180 days and the use of this pit will be intermittent.
2. Please add to the text of this exhibit a statement that there is no overburden on the
site (assuming such statement is accurate).
All material, except stockpiled topsoil, coming out of the Pickard Pit will be utilized
for road building, gravelling, and the like. Thickness will vary depending on where
the material is taken within the site. It will range from 20 feet thick at the northwest
corner to 60 feet at the southeast corner.
