Climax Molybdenum Company (Climax and Henderson Mines)
hosted the 1975 Solid Mineral Waste Stabilization Liaison Com-
mittee at Vail , Colorado. The committee is comprised of indivi-
duals representing mainly the industrial and academic interests,
but also State and Federal agencies involved with the reclama-
tion of mineral waste areas. Most of the members of the com-
mittee are field-oriented and the free exchange of information
and solutions on the practical level have made this committee
one of the most active and realistic groups involved in the
reclamation problems inherent with mineral development.
9. 16 SOIL CONSERVATION SERVICE RESEARCH PLOTS AND UPPER
COLORADO ENVIRONMENTAL PLANT CENTER
In 1975 , Climax became involved with other interested
parties in the development of a new plant material center in the
Upper Colorado Region. The Center was formally
dedicated during July, 1977 .
One of the priorities of the center is to develop
plant materials for the revegetation of alpine and subalpine
disturbed lands. There are presently two research projects
on-going at Climax , in cooperation with the Upper Colorado
Environmental Plant Center. These being species evaluation
plantings for woody potted plants, and seeded grass and
grass-like plants .
These plots were seeded this summer, and as of yet no
results are available.
9 . 17 DUST CONTROL RESEARCH
Starting in 1970 , Climax became involved in research
to determine the best method to control fugitive dust rising
from the tailing deposition areas.
