VI. Field Quality Assurance /Quality Control
The following field quality assurance /quality control procedures will be used to document the
precision and accuracy of the sampling. These procedures will be used to provide QA/QC for
all regular sampling on site, including samples of ground water, surface water and process
water. Not all sample locations will be sampled during each sampling event nor will each have
a field duplicate or replicate sample each time it is sampled.
Field Blank - a field blank is prepared by the same protocols as a normal sample, but is
not exposed to any sampling equipment. One field blank will be taken during each
monthly sampling event. This sample shall consist of sample bottles which are filled at
the sample collection site with reagent blank (DS /DI) water and any necessary
preservative in a sample bottle randomly chosen from all sample bottles. This sample
will be used to detect contamination from containers, handling and transportation.
Field Replicates - field replicates are co- located samples collected identically and
consecutively over a minimum period of time. Field replicates are sent to the same
laboratory and analyzed for identical chemical parameters. One pair of field replicates
will be collected during each monthly sampling event. This sample will document field
precision. The sampling location for the field duplicate shall be selected randomly prior
to each sampling event.
Chain -of- custody - all samples shall be collected and handled using full chain -of-
custody procedures. An example of a chain -of- custody form is attached for reference.
Filter - at least once, an "unused filter" (from the dissolved metals preparation) shall be
placed in DS /DI water, acidified with nitric acid to a pH of less than 2.0 and analyzed for
metals to determine external sample contamination.
