ameO
4.1.1 Grain Size Distribution
AMEC completed the grain size distribution (gradation) of a sample of BF. The results of
gradation analyses are presented in Appendix E and summarized in Table 4.
■ AMEC performed 1 CQA gradation of BF for the LOB Liner Extension. The testing
frequency (approximately one test per 3,179 cubic yards) exceeded the minimum
specified testing frequency of one test per 10,000 cubic yards. The CQA gradations
performed of BF met project specifications. The SLF CQA gradation results are
presented in Appendix G and summarized in Table 4.
4.1.2 Moisture Content
AMEC measured oven moisture content of BF as part of the CQA program. Moisture content
data are presented in Appendix E.
4.1.3 Atterberg Limits
AMEC performed Atterberg limit testing of all fill materials. All fill materials were non - plastic.
The BF sample tested met project specifications for Atterberg Limits.
The BF Atterberg limits testing frequency (approximately one test per 300 cubic yards)
exceeded the minimum specified testing frequency of one test per 5,000 cubic yards. The
plasticity index of the CQA BF sample met the project specification of plasticity index greater
than or equal to 10. Atterberg limit test results for BF are presented in Appendix E and
summarized in Table 4.
4.1.4 Proctor Compaction Tests
AMEC performed standard Proctor compaction tests of BF in order to compare in -place
densities and moisture contents with laboratory determined values of maximum dry density and
optimum moisture content. AMEC performed 1 CQA Standard Proctor compaction tests of BF.
Proctor compaction testing was not specified for BF. Approximately one test per 3,179 cubic
yards was performed. The BF compaction test results are presented in Appendix E and
summarized in Table 4. CQC Proctor tests were not included in the Proctor testing frequency.
4.2 Field Testing and Monitoring
AMEC observed all fill operations in the construction to verify, when necessary, lift thickness,
adequate compaction, and acceptable moisture conditions. AMEC standardized nuclear
gauges at the start of each day's work according to ASTM D2922.
10
