"Ah
Will"ret"
2.1 Subgrade Preparation
Prior to BF placement, Ames moisture conditioned and compacted the entire surface of the LOB
Liner Extension with a smooth drum vibratory compactor. The quality of the finished surface
was then maintained until BF was placed.
2.2 Bedding Fill (prior to geosynthetic installation)
Based on neat -line survey, Ames placed and compacted approximately 1,060 cubic yards of BF
below the GCL for the LOB Liner Extension footprint to project specifications.
Ames processed the BF for the LOB Liner Extension construction as part of the Phase 5
construction. Ames worked the crushed material through a screen to remove oversized material
from the BF to uniformly condition the material to project specifications.
The BF was compacted to a minimum thickness of 12 inches by a smooth -drum vibratory
compactor. BF was moisture - conditioned and compacted as needed to meet project
specifications. The minimum BF density was 95 percent of the maximum dry density at
optimum moisture content to 3 percent wet of optimum as determined by standard Proctor tests
performed by AMEC. Areas of the BF that initially failed to meet the moisture - density
requirement were moisture - conditioned, if necessary, and re- compacted to achieve the required
compaction to project specifications.
Prior to GCL deployment on the BF, Ames proof - rolled, compacted, and hand - worked the fill
surface to be free of abrupt grade changes. AMEC then inspected the surface. Sharp or
angular stones greater than 0.75 inches in diameter were removed from the finished surface.
AMEC approved fill surfaces prior to release to Lonestar ( Geosynthetic Subcontractor to Ames)
for deployment. AMEC provided formal subgrade approval prior to geomembrane deployment.
The subgrade acceptance forms are presented in Appendix D.
2.3 Composite Liner System
A GCL and geomembrane composite liner system was installed in the LOB Liner Extension.
The composite liner system consists Bentomat ST GCL overlain by a single layer consisting of
80 -mil single sided texture LLDPE geomembrane.
Ames anchored the composite liner at the limits of the LOB Liner Extension in an anchor trench,
measuring 3 feet deep by 2 feet wide. Ames backfilled the anchor trenches with suitable anchor
trench backfill material, placing the material in 12- inch -thick lifts and compacting it with a
"Jumping Jack ". The geomembrane as -built panel layouts is shown in Appendix A.
Upon acceptance of the liner system, a 2 -foot layer of BF was then placed over the
geomembrane to project specifications.
0
