Operational Fluid Level Limitation
At all times the rate of injection shall never exceed the rate of recovery pumping (verified by
weekly average flows) plus the amount of fluid needed to replace the volume of produced
nahcolite.
Iniection Fluid Limitation
No off -site waste, on -site industrial wastes or solvents may be injected. Injection of any
hazardous waste as identified by EPA under 40 CFR 261.3 is expressly prohibited. The approved
injection fluid is a combination of the following fluids having a total volurne equal to the
quantity needed to produce brine at the rates required by production:
(a) fresh water pumped from the A- Groove Aquifer, used as make -up water;
(b) depleted solution mining production fluid from which the
bicarbonate /carbonate content has been mostly removed. This fluid is
recycled to the wells as part of the solution mining process; and
(c) make -up water from the process pond.
Well Construction
The 13H -1 well is a horizontal well that will be drilled into the lower Boies Bed and constructed
according to Part II.A. WELL CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS of the Final Area Permit
effective December 4, 2003.
Demonstration of Mechanical Integrity
("1) A successful demonstration of Part I (Internal) Mechanical Integrity is required prior to
injection, and no less than every five years after the last successful test.
(2) The pennittee shall demonstrate Part II (External) Mechanical Integrity pursuant to 40 CFR
146.8(a)(2) using a temperature log and the demonstration of Part II Mechanical Integrity shall
be repeated no less than every five years after the last successful test.
Demonstration of Financial Responsibility
The applicant has demonstrated financial responsibility by a Letter of Credit and has been
approved by EPA. The Director may revise the amount required, and may require the pennittee
to obtain and provide updated estimates of costs for plugging the well according to the approved
Plugging and Abandonment plan.
Plu gins and Abandotunent
The well shall be plugged in a manner that isolates the injection zone and prevents movement of
fluids into or between USDWs, according to Part II.E. PLUGGING AND ABANDONMENT of
tile: Final Area Permit effective December 4, 2003.
AREA OF REVIEW (AOR) WELL REQUIREMENTS
Two wells, the DS -5 and I' )H-R, have been identified to reside within a 1/4 mile radius from the
13H -I injection well.
Artthori_ntion for Aciclitior7ul If '-ell: UIC Area Permit C030358 -00000
Df /ell: 13H -1 EPA TJ1e111D: C030358-08417 Pale 3 of 5
