The Red Point Mine has been reconsidered for intermittent, non - producing operation for
the unique opportunity it can provide in the study of the oil shale resource, and the mine
would remain active until such time as Chevron has deemed it no longer useful for that
purpose.
At such time as the mine was deemed no longer needed for scientific research, the above-
ground electrical conduit would be removed from the surface and recycled or properly
disposed of as the case may be. The rock barrier and mesh would also be removed unless
Chevron deemed these improvements beneficial for future use of the existing ranch road.
The mine and all interior improvements (i.e. rock bolts, cyclone mesh, fan) would be
abandoned in place and the mine portal and ventilation drift would be secured to prevent
unauthorized entry. The mine would not be permanently closed to future use as it is
unknown at this time whether it may again be utilized at some point for further research
or production mining.
No surface reclamation or re- seeding would be required following the activities proposed
in this application as no new land or vegetation disturbance is proposed or expected. The
site would be left in its pre- construction, or better, condition.
A reclamation cost estimate is provided as an attachment to this application along with a
Corporate Security Bond for the labor and equipment required to complete the removal of
all surface improvements, including rock barrier and cyclone wire mesh.
