30 CFR 57.11053(d) Fire fighting plan.
In the event of an underground mine fire, several methods can be used to fight the fire, depending on the
circumstances. It is important to understand that the mine is presently naturally ventilated, and will have
mechanical ventilation when work is begun underground. In both cases, the ventilation drift is the air
intake, and the main portal entry is the exhaust for the mine.
In the event of a mine fire, ventilation will continue until all underground personnel have evacuated the
mine and have been accounted for. If all personnel have been accounted for, then two methods of fighting
the fire can be pursued, depending on the circumstances:
1) At this point, the mine ventilation may be stopped by closing off the air intake at the fan bulkhead
in the ventilation drift. This will involve shutting down the fan and covering the intake opening.
Additionally the Mine Portal can be covered. This will starve the fire of combustion air.
2) If it decided that the mine fire is to be investigated and ultimately fought, mechanical ventilation
will be left on, fire fighting personal ( with proper PPE and fire fighting equipment) will enter the
mine from the ventilation drift, keeping the supply air at their backs as they enter the mine and
assess the situation.
If personnel remain in the mine, then mine ventilation will remain on, and step (2) followed to allow
entry into the mine to search for unaccounted for mine personal.
30 CFR 57.11053 (e) Surface Procedure to follow in an emergency.
In the event of an emergency, the on -site Chevron construction coordinator shall notify Chevron's Hiner
Gate Operations Control Room either by site radio, cell phone, or by local land line phone located at the
nearest well pad. The Operations Control Room personal will notify the local DeBeque Colorado Fire
Rescue department and they will respond.
In the event of an outside emergency, such as brush fire, inclement weather, etc. all mine personnel shall
evacuate the mine site to a safe mustering point as directed by the Chevron Construction coordinator.
30 CFR 57.11053 (0 Availability of Emergency Communication and Transportation Facilities.
Emergency communications and transportation will be provided by the DeBeque, Colorado Fire and
Rescue Department, which will be contacted through the Chevron Hiner Gate Operations Control.
