ameO
unsuitable materials, and that the subgrade surface was compacted prior
to Soil Liner Fill (SLF) placement.
• AMEC visually monitored the placement and compaction of SLF including
observation of depth verification performed by Ames, particle size,
moisture conditioning, and compaction of the fill. AMEC performed
in -place nuclear moisture density testing, and performed CQA laboratory
testing of grain size, moisture content, Atterberg limits, standard Proctor
compaction, and permeability. AMEC also provided visual monitoring of
the SLF surface preparation and moisture conditioning for geomembrane
deployment, including verification that the surface was proof - rolled,
compacted, and hand - worked so as to be free of desiccation cracks,
abrupt grade changes, and sharp stones or objects. AMEC also observed
the excavation, backfill, and compaction of the anchor trenches.
• AMEC monitored the ambient air temperatures and the temperatures of
fills, including SLF, in accordance with project specifications. The
ambient air and fill temperatures monitored during fill activities are
summarized in Tables 2 and 3, respectively.
1.2.2 CQA/CQC Monitoring of Geosynthetics Installation
AMEC provided CQA monitoring of geosynthetics used for the Phase 5 Berm Modification.
CQA services provided by AMEC consisted of performing geosynthetics inventory and
checking quality control certifications prior to geosynthetics deployment. AMEC performed
geosynthetics CQA activities in accordance with the Geosynthetics CQA Plan (Section
1400.2 of the Specifications; see Appendix E). Geosynthetics CQA activities performed by
AMEC included:
• Observation and documentation of geomembrane deployment, trial
seams, seaming, destructive testing, and non - destructive testing
(pressure tests and vacuum tests);
• Performing conformance testing of geomembrane;
• Measuring geomembrane panel thickness and confirming adequate panel
overlap;
• Visually inspecting geomembrane sheet quality, sheet grinding, seam
alignment, and continuity; and
• Retaining archive samples of geomembrane destructive tests.
AMEC Environment & Infrastructure, Inc.
2000 S.
