AMEC logged insufficient panel overlaps as defects <br />and marked them for correction. <br />Ames surveyed all panel intersections and destructive seam sample locations. Using these <br />points, AMEC has developed the primary geomembrane panel layout record drawing <br />(Record Drawing No. 3 of 3), in Appendix A. <br />The Phase 5 Berm Modification LLDPE primary geomembrane deployment observations are <br />presented in Appendix J.1. <br />6.3 Seaming <br />The double wedge fusion weld was the principal seaming method employed by Lone Star <br />for this project. Lone Star fusion seamed (welded) geomembrane on the same day that it <br />was deployed. Lone Star used extrusion welds for seaming where the Phase 5 Berm <br />Modification 80 -mil LLDPE primary geomembrane tied into existing 80 -mil LLDPE primary <br />geomembrane, for repairs, and where conditions were unfavorable for fusion welding (e.g., <br />sharp corners). AMEC observed trial seam tests, monitored seaming equipment <br />temperatures and speed, and provided visual observation of the seaming procedures. <br />AMEC observed the entire lengths of all seams, patches, and other repairs either during <br />seaming, or shortly after completion. <br />6.3.1 Trial Seam Monitoring <br />Lone Star performed trial seams to monitor the performance of the seaming apparatus and <br />operator under actual site conditions. Each welding operator and his apparatus produced <br />trial seams prior to the beginning of each day's seaming operation, after all work activity <br />stoppages, and in the event that devices were disconnected from power and re- energized. <br />Lone Star cut one -inch wide samples (coupons) from each trial seam and tested the <br />coupons with a field tensiometer. Lone Star tested each double wedge fusion trial seam <br />twice for peel adhesion (peel) and once for bonded seam strength (shear).
