Standard Proctor maximum dry density and optimum moisture content <br />values for samples with greater than ten percent plus 3/4 -inch material were corrected <br />according to ASTM D4718 to facilitate direct comparison to nuclear density values. The <br />moisture - density testing frequency of approximately one test per 118 cubic yards exceeded <br />the minimum specified testing frequency of one test per 500 cubic yards. Nuclear density <br />tests performed for the Phase 5 Berm Modification SLF are summarized in Table 7. Any <br />failing areas were reworked, re- compacted, and retested to meet specifications. The <br />number of retests was not used to determine the testing frequency. Holes made in the SLF <br />during testing were filled by tamping fine bentonite material into the holes, as specified. <br />4.2.3.3 Depth Verification <br />Ames drilled a total of four (4) holes in the compacted SLF to verify that the minimum <br />12 -inch compacted depth had been achieved. AMEC monitored the SLF depth verification <br />tests and documented results. Depth verification holes were filled with fine bentonite <br />material, as specified. All of the holes drilled into the SLF had compacted depths greater <br />than 12 inches. The testing frequency of 13.6 holes per acre exceeded the minimum <br />specified testing frequency of two measurements per acre. The SLF depth verification <br />results met project specifications and are presented in Table 8. <br />4.2.4 Temperature Monitoring <br />AMEC monitored ambient air temperatures using a Davis Vantage Pro 2 data - logging <br />weather system. Temperatures were measured every hour. The lowest and highest daily <br />temperatures are summarized in Table 2. <br />During placement of fill materials, fill temperature monitoring was not necessary due to <br />ambient temperature above 32 °F.
