BUCKLEN EQUIPMENT CO
BUCKLEN EQUIPMENT CO PIT - ID# M- 1982 -131 I Technical Revision
The portable processing plant will be moved into area A during the mining of Phase 1. This plant
will be located at the site of the Old Farmhouse. (The farmhouse was given to the Western Hills
Fire Protection District and was recently burned for training and practice.)
Phase 2 of the operation will then begin in the uplands farm field as shown on Exhibit C. A
dewatering trench will be constructed around the entire parcel as shown on Exhibit C and the
area will be dewatered. Topsoil will be stripped and stockpiled along the south boundary of the
property. Overburden will be saved in sufficient quantities for reclamation but will also be a
saleable material. Only enough material necessary for reclaiming shorelines, etc. will remain on
the property.
Mining in an adjacent pit is being done with a dewatering trench and pump and has not impacted
well owners in the area. The majority of the property owners in the area are supplied water
through the City of Greeley. The Poudre River serves as a hydrologic barrier to the north and thus
prevents drawdown in this direction.
There are approximately 30 to 40 feet of sand and gravel in the deposit. Underlying this deposit is
a silty clay layer that is not considered to be bedrock. The stratum directly beneath the valley fill
deposit is a clay layer that is moderately soft. It is not typical of the blue shale bedrock normally
found in pits along the front range. In some areas of Greeley, mining has been continued through
this layer to lower deposits of gravel that are claimed to continue down to depths as great as 100
feet. This mining plan does not intend to extract reserves below the estimated 30 to 40
feet.
The disturbance associated with the project is as follows:
Major Disturbance
Excavated Area for Mining
Overburden Stockpiles
Topsoil Stockpiles
Moderate Disturbance
Backfilled Shoreline
Overburden Leveling
Topsoiled Areas
TABLE OF DISTURBANCE
3.0 acres
0.28 acres
0.28 acres
1.12 acres
0.56 acres
0.56 acres
Applegate Group, Inc.
