MINING PLAN EXHIBIT D
1. General Mining Plan
The property boundary has been surveyed on site and the permit area will be surveyed prior to
any site disturbance. Map C -2 shows the mining plan.
Primary access to the property is along D Road from 32 Road (US Hwy 141) east to 32 1 /2 Road.
The haul route from the pit will use an existing access point and maintenance easement utilized by
Grand Valley Drainage District and another gravel extraction operation (M.A. Concrete on land
leased from Clifton Sanitation District) along the 33 Road drain. The access point is located at the
southwestern corner of the site, where the access road intersects 321/2 Road, approximately 340'
north of the intersection with D Road. The permit boundary allows direct access to D 1 /2 Road. An
independent traffic impact study analyzed sight distances at this access point and found them to be
adequate. Mesa County Transportation and Engineering departments wish to modify the D 1 /2 and
32 1 /2 Road intersection south of the present location to improve sight distances. United
Companies has deeded land to Mesa County to assist in this endeavor. This area is outside the
permit boundary and is shown on Map C -2.
The gravel zone is approximately 20 to 30 feet thick in an alluvial deposit of the Colorado River
and is overlain by soil of approximately 12" thickness and overburden ranging from 4 to 16 feet.
The deposit will be mined in a three pit sequence, beginning with the easternmost pit, which is
called Pit 1. Pit 2 is located adjacent to the west and Pit 3 is located in the southwest corner.
Ultimately, the entire site will be reclaimed with the mined areas creating two lakes, providing
wildlife habitat and aesthetic benefit to the area. Pit 1 is to be mined in an area with very few
adjacent houses and generally surrounded on three sides by undeveloped vacant land. A current
gravel extraction operation and remnants of abandoned sewage treatment lagoons exist to the
south of the permit area. These aeration ponds were taken out of service a few years ago when
Clifton Sanitation District constructed their current treatment facility.
Otter Creek Pit December 12 D -1
