November 15, 2012 C-1981-012/New Elk Mine DIH
Ditch D6,located to the southwest of the temporary underground development waste storage area, was recently
extended as requested by DRMS to better intercept the run-off flowing to the southwest from the storage area.
The blockage just downstream of the outlet of Culvert C73 has been removed;the disturbed-area runoff being
conveyed through C73 has been temporarily diverted into a road drainage ditch until installation of a fire hydrant
that will be located southeast of the pump house is finished.
Photo of recently-extended Ditch D6. Photo of removal of blockage below Culvert C73.
It appears that a small amount of fill may have been temporarily placed in the Purgatoire River just upstream of
the pump house, so as to improve access to the pump house intake area in the river during dredging of the intake
area. If this is the case, it may be time to remove the fill. Culvert C76, located west of the RDA in the RDA
upland diversion ditch, was being replaced at the time of the inspection.
_ ar
Photo of possible temporary fill in Purgatory River Photo of Culvert C76 in RDA being replaced.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 3
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 5 of 9
