APPENDIX A
TEMPORARY RIVER CROSSING FLOW CALCULATIONS
The temporary river crossing will consist of at least seven 2-ft diameter
corrugated metal culverts of approximately 30 feet long. From the enclosed
chart, it can be interpolated that each culvert can pass 4.5 cubic feet/second
of water with no head. The temporary river crossing will not be over 5 feet
high and will contain less than 500 cubic yards of material. At less than 5
feet high, 2.5 feet of head over the culverts would be available without
topping the temporary crossing. Interpolation from the chart shows that at 2.5
foot of head each culvert can pass 22.5 cubic feet/second of water. The
Hydrograph at Madrid (larger flow than at Maxwell Mine) shows that during April
a normal high flow of 30 cubic feet/second can be expected.
Temporary Crossing Capacity @ No Head = 7 x 4.5 = 31 .5 cfs
Temporary Crossing Capacity @ 2.5' Head = 7 x 22.5 = 157.5 cfs
