Revised 11/15/81
Corporation will submit the proper and necessary plans to show ' the
method and area where disturbances will occur. Sufficient lead times
will be taken to ensure protection of environmental resources and also
to coincide with the necessary safe, efficient operation of the mine.
2.05.3 Operation Plan - Permit Area
Production Methods and Equipment
Coal is mined at the Maxwell Mine by continuous miner methods in a room
and pillar configuration. Access to the Maxwell seam is by an incline
slope from the surface to the coal seam. During construction of the
mine, the incline slope was driven by conventional methods to intersect
the Maxwell seam. Upon completion of the slope, continuous miners and
associated support and haulage equipment have been utilized to begin
development of entries which will be utilized during the life of the
operation.
Mining operations to be conducted during the term of the permit,
operations will be all developmental in nature. Traditional room and
pillar methods are utilized to mine the coal contained in the areas
where main and submain entries are being developed. Development of the
mains and submains is merely in preparation for later higher productive
methods of mining to be utilized in the later operation of the mine.
During the permit term, CF&I Steel Corporation expects to produce at a
500,000 ton per year rate. Total production during the permit term at
this production rate is expected to be approximately 2.5 million tons,
but will vary depending upon market demands for the steel-making
operation at Pueblo, Colorado.
Equipment associated with the continuous miner, room and pillar method
of mining consists of shuttle cars, roof bolting machines , loading
machines, rock dust equipment, supply haulage equipment, and belt line
haulage equipment. In addition, personnel transport equipment which
allow access by the crews, supervisory, and maintenance personnel is
also utilized.
2.05-6
