Revised 11/15/81
free method possible. Particular care will be taken to avoid excess
compaction of the soil material during and after it is spread. If
excessive compaction occurs, the area will be loosened or ripped prior
to revegetation efforts.
The general sequence of placement of soil material will consist of
placing the available C horizon subsoil first and then covering it with
the A and B horizon soils.
Timing of the topsoil placement will be consistent with and prior to
when favorable vegetation conditions generally occur. Particular effort
will be made to ensure that revegetation occurs immediately after
completion of the topsoil placement process.
Revegetation
Revegetation of the graded areas will be completed on a schedule as
determined by the Department of Range Science, Colorado State
University, Fort Collins, Colorado. The specific recommendations
determined by this group are shown in Exhibit 18, and have been
determined by several years of study. The seed mixture which CF&I Steel
Corporation plans to utilize is shown in Table 16, Seed Mixture.
The method of planting and seeding to be utilized will consist of
broadcast seeding or drilling the seed mixture after the seedbed has
been prepared. Preparation of the seedbed will consist of working the
soil material with a chisel plow, disc, or other farm implement. During
the seedbed preparation, phosphorus will be broadcast on the surface and
worked into the soil to a depth of 6 to 10 inches. Following the first
two growing seasons, nitrogen will be applied to enhance the
revegetation, effort. Fertilizer rates will consist of 100 pounds of
nitrogen per acre and 200 pounds of P 2 0 5 per acre. Shrubs will be
planted as seeds consistent with the 'recommendations of the Department
of Range Science.
2.05-31
