SPECIFICATION E <br /> DEWATERING <br /> 1 SCOPE <br /> This specification covers the furnishing, installing, operating, maintaining and <br /> removal of pumping and other equipment necessary for removal of water from the <br /> various parts of the work and for maintaining the foundations and other parts of the <br /> work free from water as required for constructing each part of the work. <br /> 2 PERFORMANCE <br /> 2.1 If required for the performance of this work, the Contractor shall maintain <br /> all necessary slopes, ditches, subdrains, and shall furnish and operate all <br /> pumps needed such that dewatering can be accomplished in a manner that <br /> will prevent loss of fines from the foundations, maintain stability of <br /> excavated slopes, and allow the work to be performed to the requirements <br /> of this specification. <br /> 2.2 The Contractor shall employ a proper method of dewatering, subject to the <br /> acceptance of the Engineer. <br /> 2.3 The Contractor will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the <br /> dewatering system and shall be liable for damage to the subgrade, <br /> foundation or structures resulting from proper or improper operation of the <br /> dewatering system including negligence; and shall correct any such damage <br /> at his or her own expense, regardless of previous review by the Engineer. <br /> Contractor's responsibilities and obligation shall extend to and include the <br /> point of discharge of waters removed from foundations and other excava- <br /> tions during the dewatering operations. <br /> 2.4 After having served their purpose, all temporary cofferdams or other <br /> protective works shall be removed or leveled and the site restored to either <br /> its original condition, or that condition required by performance of the Work. <br /> SPEC.
