4.2 REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE (RCP)
4.2.1 Reinforced concrete pipe shall be furnished complete with jointing
materials and other necessary appurtenances.
4.2.2 Reinforced concrete pipe shall meet the requirements for Class V,
B-Wall Reinforced Concrete Pipe and shall have a minimum wall
thickness of four inches (4"). The conduit shall be designed to
withstand the maximum loads based on the conditions shown on
the Drawings. These loads shall include but not be limited to the
following:
1. Hydrostatic head of not less than 45 feet.
2. Dam embankment soil pressures utilizing a unit weight
of 135 pounds per cubic foot. Factored embankment
design loads shall be a minimum of 33.4 kip per lineal
foot vertical and combined vertical and horizontal load
of 23.2 kip per lineal foot and 6.2 kip per lineal foot,
respectively.
3. Thermal expansion and contraction.
4.2.3 Reinforced concrete pipe and specials for the inlet shall meet the
requirements for Class V Reinforced Concrete Pipe manufactured
in accordance with ASTM C 361. When design parameter are
above and beyond those given in ASTM C 361 Table 1, manufac-
turer shall utilize Section 7, Paragraph 7.2 (Modified and Special
Design). Modified design shall be performed using the "Direct
Design Method" (e.g. FHWA, PIPECAR Program) and submitted to
the design engineer for approval.
4.2.4 Circumferential reinforcement shall be full-circle type and shall
consist of an inner and outer cage. Elliptical or part-circle
reinforcement will not be acceptable. The minimum area of
reinforcement, the spacing, and placement details shall be in
accordance with ASTM C 361 and AWWA C 302.
SPECIFICATION C - PIPING
PAGE 3
