12.3 PROTECTION OF SURFACES <br /> The Contractor shall be held responsible for the complete protection of all <br /> finished concrete surfaces from such damage as chipping, nicking and <br /> scratching. <br /> 13 CONCRETE GROUT <br /> Concrete grout shall be concrete which meets all the requirements of this <br /> specification except that all aggregate shall pass the three-eighth-inch (3/80)sieve. <br /> Only fine aggregate shall be used in the mix design. <br /> 14 TESTING OF CONCRETE <br /> The following testing shall be performed by the Engineer on work performed under <br /> this specification. <br /> 14.1 STRENGTH TESTS <br /> During the course of construction, tests shall be conducted at a certified <br /> independent testing facility to determine whether the concrete, as being <br /> produced, complies with the standards of quality specified in this specifica- <br /> tion. The Contractor is not relieved of the responsibility of proper placing <br /> and curing even though test reports indicate adequate strengths. <br /> 14.1.1 PREPARATION OF TEST SPECIMENS <br /> The concrete for test specimens will be sampled in accordance <br /> with ASTM C 172. The specimen will be cast and cured in <br /> accordance with ASTM C 31 and will be tested in accordance <br /> with ASTM C 39. Each test specimen will be tagged with the <br /> location of the sampled batch in the structure, and mix propor- <br /> tions or number, the slump and the type and brand of cement. <br /> 14.1.2 NUMBER OF TEST SPECIMENS <br /> Not less than three (3) test specimens will be made for each fifty <br /> (50) cubic yards, or portion thereof, of concrete placed in any one <br /> (1) shift. <br /> SPEC.
