. L
Table 2 (at the back of this report) lists the outlet works discharge for each foot of
elevation.
Trash Rack Control Gate, and Inlet Structure Desian
The trash rack and the inlet structure were designed in accordance with the
procedures set forth in SCS Technical Release No. 464 (TR-46). The trash rack is
comprised of several individual members which will be assembled on site and may be
disassembled if necessary. The trash rack is designed for a minimum plugged loading
condition of 25 percent of the maximum reservoir head, or 618 psf (39.6 ft * 62.4 Ib/sq-ft
* 25% = 618 psf). For purposes of the trash rack design, maximum reservoir head is
measured from the dam crest elevation (10,725 feet) to the elevation of the trash rack
centerline 0 0,685.4 feet).
The gross area of the inlet will be about 40.1 square feet with 24 percent bar area
and 76 percent open area. The average velocity through the trash rack will be approxi-
mately 1.48 feet per second for peak flow attainable at the normal water elevation (45
cfs). The velocity through the trash rack will be 0.80 feet per second for the maximum
release rate under 10 feet of head (24.5 cfs).
The inlet will include a 4-inch diameter vent to atmosphere, as recommended by
TR-46, that will be installed along the side of the control stem. A 3-inch diameter pipe will
also be installed alongside the stem to provide for the placement of a pressure transducer
inside the 3-inch pipe at the inlet elevation for purposes of monitoring reservoir levels.
A Hydrogate Model 501 sluice gate (or equivalent) including a 1 Y2-inch diameter
encased stem, and geared crank lift, has been selected for the service. The stem supports,
handwheel pedestal, and stem details have been specified based on TR-46 and the gate
manufacturer's recommendations. The sluice gate and controls shall be designed for a
minimum seating head of 45 feet and a nominal unseating head. The gate shall also be
designed to accommodate throttling under high head conditions.
8
