GENERAL
The following is a supplement to the original design report and cost estimate for the
No. 1 Dam Seepwater Pump Station. This supplement is a result of the discussions
between Climax personnel, W. W. Wheeler and Associates, Inc., and Morroni Engineering,
Inc. at a meeting at the Climax Mine held on March 6, 1996. Several modifications to the
original preliminary design were requested by Climax personnel. Presented herein is a
description and effect of these modifications.
HYDROLOGY
The hydrology model that was used for the original design report was modified to
forecast the pumping requirements under the scenario that runoff inflow to Eagle Park
Reservoir would be temporarily stored and pumped back to Robinson Reservoir at a
constant rate through fall and winter months. The general procedure used for this analysis
was as follows:
1. The annual inflow to Eagle Park Reservoir (EPR) was modeled for the period
1982 through 1995 to determine the total volume reporting to the reservoir
from May 1 through April 30.
2. For each year, the constant pumping rate that would return the storage
reservoir to the same volume was calculated. This flow was added to the
inflow to Robinson Reservoir that included subdrain flows, leakage from the
West Gravity Line, and from tributary runoff for that basin.
The results of this evaluation show that the rate of pumping from EPR must be from
229 gpm in dry years to 615 gpm in wet years similar to 1984. The storage in the
reservoir will vary by 200 to 500 acre feet for dry and wet years, respectively. A cursory
check of the storage capacity of the existing reservoir basin shows that the water surface
elevation would vary 15 to 25 feet if a minimum storage level of 100 acre feet is
maintained, and that there would be an additional flood storage capacity of about 300 acre
feet before the water level would reach the new outlet works. This evaluation is
somewhat conservative since it is based on the capacity in September 1995, i.e. before
completion of the tailing removal.
1
